Kooperationsprojekt mit den "Helpers of Mary"

Mit großer Freude haben sich die Marys für die Spenden der Rajkotfreunde in Höhe von 5.000,-€ bedankt. Das Geld wurde für eine Slumschule in Adheri, einem Vorort von Bombay verwendet. Die Schule versorgt 235 Kinder aus den umliegenden Slums vom Kindergarten bis zur 10. Klasse. 8 Lehrer und 2 Schwestern betreuen die Kinder. Die Kinder kommen morgens um 8:30 Uhr und gehen nachmittags um 16:30 Uhr heim. Mittags bekommen sie eine Mahlzeit.

Die Eltern dieser Kinder sind Müllsammler, Rikschafahrer oder im Straßenbau tätig. Sie verdienen zu wenig, um ihre Familien zu ernähren und den Kindern eine Ausbildung zu ermöglichen. All diese Menschen sind aus ländlichen Gebieten nach Bombay gekommen, in der Hoffnung ihr Glück in der Millionenmetropole zu finden und landeten in den Slums. Oftmals finden sie auch gar keine Arbeit. Sie leben in kleinen Hütten ohne Elektrik und ohne fließendes Wasser. Diese dunklen und feuchten Hütten bieten den Kindern keinen Platz zum Lernen. In der Slumschule geben die Marys ihnen Unterricht, teilen Hefte und Bücher aus, kleiden die Kinder ein, sorgen für Mahlzeiten und fördern ihre Talente bei sportlichen und kulturellen Aktivitäten.

Mit Hilfe der vielen Freunde aus Deutschland haben die Marys bis heute 121 Häuser für die Tsunami-Opfer gebaut. Die ausgewählten Leute, obdachlose Familien sind glücklich, dass sie ein neues Heim gefunden haben. Menschen die dachten, dass der Tsunami das Ende von allem sei, strahlen nun vor Freude über ihre gewonnene Sicherheit. 20 Frauen unter ihnen haben einen Schneiderkurs beendet und sind nun in der Lage, selbst für ihren Unterhalt zu sorgen und ihre Grundbedürfnisse zu decken. Jede der Frauen bekam zum Abschluss eine Nähmaschine. Außerdem wurden für viele Schüler die Kosten für Schulgeld, Bücher, Schul-uniformen usw. übernommen. Der Tsunami war nicht die letzte Katastrophe, es folgten Überschwemmungen in Gujarat, Maharashtra und Bombay.

Leider steigt auch die Zahl der an HIV/Aids erkrankten Kinder und Frauen. Dies hat die Marys veranlasst, ein "CARE"-Heim in Rivona/Goa zu eröffnen. Hier leben Kinder von einem Tag zum anderen, sie kämpfen tapfer um ihr Leben, obwohl der Tod ihnen nahe ist. Vor kurzem starb hier die 12-jährige Jagruti. Seit ihrer Geburt litt sie schuldlos an HIV/Aids. Ihre Eltern sind kurz nach ihrer Geburt daran gestorben. Dank der Spenden konnten die Marys Jagrutis Leben so lange verlängern und sie starb einen würdevollen Tod. CARE ist bislang das einzige Haus im indischen Bundesstaat Goa, das sich um Aids-Kranke kümmert

Greetings of peace and joy of the new bon Babe!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. We too had a nice Xmas celebration with children, sisters, old people and all at Andheri. I take this opportunity to thank you for the great sum of Euro 10,000/- that you send us through Fam. Amsoff towards the project for ‘the training programme for young women and girls’. It is indeed a great support to train these young ladies from the slums. The tailoring classes are already going on. We organized a health & hygiene awareness programme and about 100 women attended it. Different doctors and nurse-sisters gave them some inputs on this subject. We will continue organizing such programme for the coming days.

The year 2006 is coming to its’ end and I would like to seize this opportunity to thank you for your cooperation and commitment towards our poor. We wish you a Blessed and successful Year 2007!

Greetings of Peace and Joy from the Helpers of Mary!

With heart full of joy and deep gratitude I would like to express my thanks to you for your generous contribution of Euro 5000.00 which you have sent us through Fam. Amshoff towards the children of slum school at Andheri. I warmly acknowledge and appreciate your valuable support to these poor children.

I am glad to give you a small report and utilization of your contribution;

One of the activities of our social centre is to encourage the poor children from slums to continue their education. For this we have started a coaching class for the children from Kindergarten to 10lh Standard. There are 235 children come from the nearby slum. We have employed 8 teachers to coach them and 2 sisters supervise the classes. The classes starts from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Since most of these children are poor and malnourished, we provide one meai a day. Though, the classes are for children we look for their overall development and their families.

We conducted two health camps for children and their parents. There was a good response for these camps. After the camps many of them were given free treatment, provided medicines, tonics, etc. We also organized an eye camp for the parents for which 26 patients had a free cataract Operation.

During Christmas we arranged Christmas tree for all the children where they were provided a set of clothes for each. Keeping in mind the total development of the family, we organized regulär meetings with parents, together with awareness sessions on health, food habits, dental care, HIV/ AIDS etc.

           Money is utilized for;
           To purchase a set of clothes for each child during Christmas
           Food expenses for 3 months

           Health Camps (children and parents):
           General health check ups
           Dental check ups
           Cataract operations.

          It is you dear friends, who stretched out a friendly hand to us, reached out to us
          in unexpected moments, with your generous help. A BIG THANK YOU to you each one
